My Return to Christ
I was saved during a Sunday School class when I was 6 years old; and for the following ten years I willingly went to church on Sunday, paid attention in Sunday School, and went to Awana then Youth Group but I didn't really have an understanding of how to be a Christian or what our purpose as Christians is. At 17 I'd had enough with the feeling of not belonging at church, especially among girls my age, and I just stopped attending church events all together.
Several years later in September 2008 at a secular conference God spoke into my life and got my attention (He really does work in mysterious ways). One of the speakers at the conference (don't ask me who he was) spoke on relationships and at one point specifically to singles. He told us to make a list of our top 5 Must Have qualities for a partner, after we made the list we shared it with a neighbour. I don't remember what my 5 qualities were but Christian was the top of my list, if I ever find that list I think I'll have it framed as a testament to God's glory and saving power. The speakers' next instruction was what really started my turn around, the advise was to then become those 5 qualities.
Google was the next vehicle for the Lord's power to work in my life; a google search that didn't seem significant at the time lead me to an article on the FamilyLife Today website, I read many of the articles on the FamilyLife site and after reading almost all of the articles relating to singles I clicked on a sidebar link out of curiosity. That link lead to a website called Revive Our Hearts, what a treasure of wisdom this has been, it has certainly revived my heart. Nancy Leigh DeMoss was working through a series on Titus 2:1-5 called God's Beautiful Design for Women: Living Out Titus 2:1-5, this was my first exposure to Titus 2, the term and idea of biblical womanhood and the meaning and purpose behind these instructions for women. Thank you Jesus for bringing the resource of Revive Our Hearts into my life and allowing me the chance to learn biblical womanhood from the wealth of wise women Nancy Leigh DeMoss teaches about and with. I listened throughout the series on Titus 2 and caught up on the messages I'd missed ...
and so began my introduction to biblical womanhood and My Journey to Homemaking.
You however must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. Teach older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise teach older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:1-5
